RESOURCES

DISTANCE LEARNING PACKET (2019-2020 School YEAR)

LEARNING PACKETSNottawa Community School begins distance-learning on April 17th.  This will be done through the use of learning packets for the balance of the year. These packets will be dropped off and picked up on the following dates: April 17th, April 24th, May 1st, May 8th, May 15th, May 20th, May 29th, June 3rd.

Although we do not have online instruction we are providing online enrichment options for students who have internet access.

TIME GUIDANCE (2019-2020 School YEAR)

TIME GUIDANCE

Students should not spend 6 and a half hours a day working on school work at home.  Attached is our RECOMMENDED SCHEDULE, however consider this flexible to meet the schedules of your family.

The schedule recommendation is that Monday through Thursday work on their packets.  Learning can be like exercise and so a little school work every day will strengthen understanding.  If something is confusing, skip over it and come back to it at a later time.  If you're still stuck you can call a teacher.  On Friday children may finish up any remaining work before it needs to be turned in, or if their work is done you can have them do the activities listed.

Teachers have put an age appropriate amount of daily work into each packet.  We know that some children may need more or less time to complete work. That is why we have estimated the amount of work being accurate to plus or minus 15 minutes.

A student in First Grade might only be able to sit and work for about 5-10 minutes at a time, and a student in 8th grade might be able to work for 20-30 minutes at a time.  We recommend frequent brain breaks.  Sometimes just taking a few minutes to visit with another family member, go for a quick bike ride, or do a household chore before sitting to do school work again can be very helpful.

Your role as a parent or trusted adult helping a child is to act more as a guide on the side.  It is not as important that a child has every answer correct.  It is safe to make mistakes. Learning grows the most during the time it takes to think.  This is called process time and it is one of the most valuable skills we can help young people develop.

DISTANCE LEARNING STAFF DIRECTORY (2019-2020 School YEAR)

Distance Learning Staff DirectoryEvery child will be contacted not less than two times per week by staff. At the start of the week teachers personally call each of their students to check in and also to review progress and answer questions about school work.  Teachers have been assigned phone numbers that students can call during scheduled morning, daytime, and evening of hours.  We understand that families have varying life and work schedules.

Teachers will offer optional conference calls so that groups of students for a whole class can have the opportunity to meet virtually. These conference calls can be done with either a standard telephone or video option.

MEAL STATIONS AND DELIVERIES  (2019-2020 School YEAR)

School MealsAll meal stations (Congress, Eastwood, Wall & Wenzel) will be open during weekdays, during the Governor's School Closure and Spring Break, from 12pm-1pm and serve lunch and the next day's take-home breakfast.

If your child is or children are unable to make it to one of our meal stations, you can sign-up for meal delivery by calling the school office at (269) 467-
